Musical Cream Tea Saturday 19th August 2023 3pm – 5pm
We had a very special afternoon Musical Cream Tea at Shipinnarts in Ashford Hill. Angela Moore (Harp) and Peter Jenkins (Violin) played in the background while everyone had their tea. They performed a variety of Classical favourites, to name a few, Faure’s Apres Un Reve, Schubert’s Serenade, some Mozart and Massenet’s Meditation and many more. In the second half, folk song arrangements, including Skye Boat Song and Oh Danny Boy and then some old standards, Smoke gets in your eyes, Berkeley Square and many more, plus a bit of Haydn and Dvorak’s Humoresque. We had a fabulous audience too, and we so appreciated all their lovely comments, it was heartwarming!
Louisa Bond (16), who took her Grade VIII piano last year, was spontaneously asked to play some of her beautiful piano pieces during the interval, which she did, from memory, her playing was so appreciated by our audience.
A scrumptious massive 120 scones were baked by one of our Committee members, Jane Pickering, and these were filled with clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam. Hot tea was served in beautiful china cups and saucers very kindly lent by neighbours and a committee member. Two helpers, Ling and Louisa Bond came to help us at the last minute, we are so thankful to their incredible kindness and help, they worked so hard. Our thanks to Georgi Selby and John Lewis for their amazing preparation of the area before the event. Our thanks also to Nigel Butler for donating a beautiful homemade fruit cake which raised over £50 for the raffle!
A lovely memorable afternoon and the sun came out for us too!
